Black Tattoos

We use a special new black pigment, three times blacker than regular ink used at other shops. This black is rich and dark, smooth as velvet and packed in so solid it’s almost bulletproof. Black tattoos can be big or small, bold or fine, any subject matter can be made in black ink. We can also use a special series of grey washes to make soft effects, or if you like it raw, straight black with whip shading for bold American Traditional.

  • We take walk-ins on a first come, first served basis, 7 days a week 11-6pm.

    It’s best to turn up early or call for availability. Spots can fill up fast especially weekends.

  • Hard to say without seeing it. Best to fill out the contact form and send a detailed description, along with three reference pics of the idea you have, then we can help you out with a price. You can always pop by the shop in person for a chat, we’re here to help.

  • We accept cash only.

    You save on additional fees, we save on merchant charges, win-win.

    There are plenty of ATM in the cbd.

  • We have a small wait area for our paying clients, as such, we don’t have room to accomodate friends during the tattoo application. The good news is we are on Melbourne’s iconic Hardware Lane, an epic food & drink destination, get your friend to grab a drink, or a bite while they wait for you.

  • It’s a little hard to spot at first, but you’ll see it!

    Look for the brass plaque at 67 Hardware Lane, Melbourne 3000. We are located between Miznon (look for the tomatoes on the tables) and Charlie’s bar, opposite the Spa Bar.

Hi, I’m Mike Tea.

I founded Blue Lady Tattoo in 2013 with a simple goal;

“To be mentioned in the same sentence as my three favourite Melbourne tattoo shops within five years of opening and contribute to the conversation of Australian tattooing.”

We achieved that goal when TimeOut listed us as number one in their ranking of Melbourne’s top tattoo parlours. We had just turned 5 that week. I was very proud of what we were able to achieve in such a short time. It’s now over 12 years in business, proudly serving the avid tattoo collectors in Melbourne, Australia. The tattoo capital of the southern hemisphere.

At Blue Lady you will find a talented and passionate team of artists, who live and breathe tattooing, who truly want the best for you. I have hand picked a team of absolute heavy hitters who can tattoo most styles. If we can’t do a great job, we will point you to another artist or shop who does that style better than us. We want you to be absolutely stoked on your next tattoo, even if we don’t end up doing it. As one of my early mentors said “There’s plenty of skin to go around.”

Tattooing has taken me around the world, I’ve been tattooing over 15 years. I love doing fine line flowers and small tattoos. I enjoy bold traditional in colour and black. I do them all as walk-ins or bookings. I’ve been called many things over the years: “Gentle Michael”, “Trusty Mike”, “Colour Fade Master”, “The Maestro of Colour” and occasionally “You bastard” to name a few. I’d love to tattoo you. You can find me alongside the super talented team at Blue Lady most days.
